How to Cook Pasture Raised Chicken

Unlike their factory farmed counterparts that are pumped with chemicals, pasture raised chickens roam free through open spaces. They spend their days picking at wild grasses and weeds. This can lead to their meat being on the tougher side.
So what’s the best way to cook pasture raised chicken so it’s tender and juicy?
Before cooking your chicken, take time to tenderize it. Marinate or dry brine it, cover it with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge for 2-3 days. If thawing a frozen chicken, again, 2-3 days in the fridge to thaw before cooking.
Tips for cooking your chicken;
  • Forgot to take your chicken out of the freezer, use your Instant Pot at 11 minutes per pound, letting the pressure release naturally.  
  • Dry brine with salted herbs and cook low and slow.
  • Marinate in milk and spices of your choice for tender and juicy chicken. 
Cooking pasture raised chicken may take some small adjustments, the health benefits and overall taste of the chicken is well worth it.
